My name is Christian Gosvig Olesen. I am a researcher at the University of Amsterdam affiliated with CLARIAH – Infrastructure for the Humanities and CREATE – Creative Amsterdam an E-Humanities Perspective. I hold a PhD degree in Media Studies (cum laude/with distinction) from the University of Amsterdam, an MA degree (cum laude/with distinction) in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image from the University of Amsterdam, and I have studied film history and theory at the universities of Copenhagen and Bologna.
Currently, I am the Principal Investigator of the NWO CLARIAH project MIMEHIST: Annotating EYE’s Jean Desmet Collection (2017-2018). The project aims at embedding the Jean Desmet Collection of the EYE Filmmuseum in the Dutch digital national research infrastructure CLARIAH’s Mediasuite. In addition, the project develops annotation functionalities for the CLARIAH Mediasuite which will allow researchers to establish links between the films and film-related materials in the Desmet Collection. Furthermore, I am also Research Assistant at CREATE: Creative Amsterdam an E-Humanities Perspective where I work on documenting, evaluating and improving the University of Amsterdam’s Mapping Desmet tool for EYE’s Jean Desmet Collection.
Beyond my specific research activities I have a longstanding interest in documentary and experimental cinema, sound theory and auditory culture and am an avid field recordist, listener of radio and various forms of experimental music in my spare time.
